scenes of the fox river

this project evolved this summer when i decided i wanted to make a short film about the nature in this area. the fox river valley is worth a visit if you are in the area, and there are a lot of interesting locations and forest preserves waiting to be explored. so i decided to get a certification from a local television station (fvtv) and was able to use their equipment to put this short film together. the film is airing on local tv channel 17, and i will try to get it on the schedule of more local tv stations.

the film shows locations around the fox river both in the summer and winter. on december 12th, 2004, i put the final touches on 23 minutes of local nature scenes.

below are some snapshots taken from the film and short descriptions of where they were taken.
many thunderstorms pass by in the spring and summer.

this rainbow was filmed in the pinecreek subdivision in north aurora.
there are bike paths on both sides of the river that follow the path of the river for many miles.

this picture was taken along the fabyan forest preserve in geneva.
ducks can be found anywhere along the fox river.

this family was found in glenwood forest preserve in batavia.
state street is home to the village hall and the road is the main bridge between the west and east side of north aurora.

in the summer the park around state street is bustling with local picknickers, and bands give outdoor concerts at the nearby village pavilion.
fishermen use the dam below state street to pass some time and catch some fish.

the river here is shallow enough to wade through.
the bike path, here a section at the les arends forest preserve, is a popular location for joggers, bikers, pedestrians and dog lovers.

most of the bike path leads through beautiful scenery: from the small historic villages along the fox river to the forest preserves and parks between.
the les arends forest preserve offers some spectacular views of the fox river.

when winter closes in, you can watch thousands of canadian geese fly over the area and land around the river to feed and seek shelter for the night.
the red tailed hawk lives in the area and prefers mice, other birds and snakes. it can reach a wing span of over 4 foot.

coloration varies greatly from bird to bird and the red tail doesn't develop until their second year. The red tailed hawk returns to the same nest site every year.
fabyan forest preserve in geneva offers great paths and a japanese garden as well as a dutch windmill and the fabyan estate, designed by architect frank lloyd wright.

once visited by many distinguished guests, such as albert einstein, the estate is now a museum.
racoons are often not-so-welcome guests in the area, but they sure are cute and use their claws almost like hands.

these ones were filmed in a backyard in north aurora.
red oak nature center offers many educational trails and views of the fox river from a hill.

nearby "devil's cave" and its story is always a favorite with the kids.
when fall comes around, the area turns into a thousand different colors. fall is an especially pretty time of the year around the fox river, however, it is a short season around here.

winter is just around the corner.
canadian geese are frequently seen in the area, and most are not migrating, so they can be seen year round.
when winter has finally arrived and the fresh snow covers the ground and the branches, the area is transformed into a winter wonderland.

this bridge in glenwood forest preserve leads over a small creek to batavia.
the fresh snow delivers many interesting motives for photo enthusiasts and nature lovers.

i hope you enjoyed these images of the fox river area.

please enjoy the show on fvtv, channel 17, and other local tv stations.
